NYRA is the cornerstone of an industry that employs 17,000 people and generates more than $2 billion in annual economic impact in New York – primarily in the important areas of agriculture and tourism.
Since 2013, NYRA has bolstered its position as a key driver for the Upstate economy. NYRA’s meet at the Saratoga Race Course generates $237 million in economic activity across the greater Capital Region, according to a Saratoga County Industrial Development Agency study.
Beyond economic impact, NYRA has developed partnerships with both local businesses/associations and the non-profits and service providers who work to better the communities where we operate.
At Saratoga alone in 2016, NYRA hosted 45 local non-profit organizations, schools and PTAs, providing these groups a platform to raise their profile and increase funding for its projects. Many of the non-profits enjoyed an exclusive day at the Community Outreach Booth to help further their marketing and outreach efforts, while local schools and PTAs took part in the Berkshire Bank Family Mondays series to raise funds and reconnect with fellow students and parents.
Downstate at both Aqueduct Racetrack and Belmont Park, NYRA also continues to engage the community actively. NYRA provides critical financial and administrative support for dozens of non-profits including, but not limited to the following:
NYRA also forged a new community partnership in 2016 with the Saratoga Downtown Business Association as part of its expanded Saratoga Season Perks program. The program includes discounts for Saratoga season pass and season ticket holders at over 70 venues, including shops, restaurants and tourist attractions throughout the Capital Region.
